GALERIE ONE

INTRODUCTION

Galerie One is a mid-century vintage furniture gallery showing the works of 1950-1960 superstar designers, architects, and upcoming mid-century designers.

The gallery has two addresses:

- A 1934 traditional Japanese house in a Kamakura residential district in Kamakura, Japan (20min walking distance from the station)

- A loft space in Paris, France

Galerie One opened in April 2023 in Kamakura, Japan. The exhibition continues at its new Tokyo branch, the Kichi Gallery in Ebisu.

WHO STARTED GALERIE ONE

Galerie Page is the result a small group of design lovers who are passionate about mid-century design:
  • Thierry Lamoine, a French mid-century design collector of more than 40 years. Galerie One's Paris branch is located at the Lamoine home, full of Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, and Jean Prouvé masterpieces, not to mention the works of many other 1950-1960 famous French designers such as Alexandre Noll, Mathieu Matégot, and more.
  • Lucca Lamoine, a French mid-century furniture collector and dealer based in Paris, France. Lucca also runs his own fashion brand called "Verlan-Paris." Lucca's new Paris apartment is full of very rare Pierre Jeanneret pieces.
  • Simon Lamoine, a vintage design collector and movie director. Simon is currently working on a documentary about Le Corbusier's Paris architecture studio.
  • Ryuta Iwai, a design collector. He is the founder of the Galerie One Tokyo branch along with the Kamakura venue.

When they were children, Lucca's and Simon's bedrooms were small "museums" with beds, chairs, and desks by Jean Prouvé, shelves by Le Corbusier, and lamps by Charlotte Perriand. Their love for good design certainly started there.

WHAT MAKES GALERIE ONE SPECIAL?

Galerie One is showing and selling works of the most important French designers from the 1950's-1960's:
  • Pierre Jeanneret
  • Jean Prouvé
  • Charlotte Perriand
  • Mathieu Matégot
  • Roger Capron
  • Alexandre Noll
  • Line Vautrin
  • Isamu Noguchi
  • French ceramic artists, such as Georges Jouve, Ruelland, Georges Pelletier, and Jacques Blin
  • Japanese Mingei artists and vintage Akari lamps by Isamu Noguchi

Galerie One is special in several ways:

  • It only sells original vintage pieces
  • If requested, pieces can be delivered with their authenticity certificate
  • The venue in Kamakura does not plan to be operated like a regular furniture gallery. The goal is to form a nice community of people, who have the same passion for design and similar lifestyle interests. The Kamakura gallery will be used as a platform for organizing special events: pop-up stores for craftsmen, young fashion designers, and artists, ikebana classes, tea classes, and meals for our collectors.
  • The gallery will regularly organize several exhibitions each year, displaying rare pieces by mid-century designers we would like to make more renowned in Japan.

On top of its Kamakura venue, Galerie One has a permanent collection at Kichi Gallery in Ebisu. The galleries work on a "by appointment" policy.

We will be adding more designers and brands as we go along.
