Jacques Blin

ジャック・ブランは、フランス陶芸の偉大な巨匠の一人とされています。
最初はエンジニアとしての訓練を受けましたが、まもなく自分の真の志を追いかけ、1954年に自身の工房を開きました。そこから、彼の独特なスタイル―丸みを帯びた有機的な形状と、粘土の表面に繊細な彫刻が生き生きと浮かび上がる洗練されたエングレービング技法―を持つ作品を次々と生み出しました。
柔らかな青や温かみのある茶色が多く、彼の陶器には控えめながら深みのある模様が現れています。ランプ、花瓶、灰皿、そして具象的かつ幻想的な生き物によって命を吹き込まれたオブジェたち。その中には、1970年代のフランスの風変わりなテレビアニメ「レ・シャドック」へのオマージュを込めたモチーフも見られます。
芸術家としてだけでなく、ブランは陶芸のための不屈の擁護者でもあり、ジュネーブ国際陶芸アカデミーの副会長や、陶芸家・アート工房組合の会長を20年以上にわたり務めました。
Jacques Blin is regarded as one of the great figures of French ceramic art.
Trained first as an engineer, he soon followed his true calling and, in 1954, opened his own workshop. From there, he began creating works that carried his unmistakable style—rounded, organic forms and the refined intaglio technique, where delicate engravings come alive on the clay’s surface.
Often in soft blues or warm browns, his ceramics reveal subtle, darker patterns—lamps, vases, ashtrays, and objects animated by figurative and imaginary creatures. Some of these motifs even pay homage to Les Shadoks, the whimsical French television cartoon of the 1970s.
Beyond his artistry, Blin was a tireless advocate for ceramics, serving as Vice President of the International Academy of Ceramics in Geneva and as President of the Chambre Syndicale of Ceramists and Art Workshops for over two decades.
