ロジェ・カプロンは1922年にヴィセンヌで生まれ、戦後のヴァロリス陶芸復興の立役者として、のどかなフランスの町を現代主義の創造的な拠点へと変貌させました。わずか24歳で廃業寸前の陶器工房を引き継ぎ、ピカソをはじめとする伝説的な芸術家たちと共に活動。ピカソの実験的な創作活動が周囲に新たな芸術エネルギーをもたらし、ヴァロリスを活気あふれる芸術の中心地に押し上げました。

Roger Capron, born in Vicennes in 1922, was a driving force behind the post-war revival of ceramics in Vallauris, transforming the sleepy French town into a vibrant centre of modernist creativity. After taking over an abandoned pottery studio at just 24, he worked alongside legendary artists, including Picasso, whose own experiments in the area helped draw a wave of artistic energy to Vallauris.

Capron’s work went far beyond traditional ceramics to include tiled coffee tables, sculptural murals, lamp bases, and whimsical animal sculptures—all celebrated for their bold colours, joyful forms, and modern design. Committed to making beauty accessible to all, he pioneered semi-industrial production methods that preserved artistic quality, bringing a spirited, artistic flair to everyday objects. His legacy lives on through internationally cherished pieces that capture the creative freedom and vibrant energy of mid-century France.

Founded by Thierry Lamoine, the gallery reflects a lifetime dedicated to mid-century French design.

His passion began in his early twenties, when he spent his first salary on a Jean Prouvé Standard Chair—an act that ignited over 40 years of collecting and research. With an instinct for discovering rare and remarkable pieces, and experience gained both managing Hakuhodo in Paris for 15 years and working in the fashion industry, Thierry is sought after by discerning collectors around the world who value his expertise in sourcing exceptional finds.  His connection with Japan deepened his respect for craftsmanship and the care given to fine objects, making Galerie One a natural home for vintage design.

After working at Idée with Kurosaki Teruo in her 20s, Arrow Nakajima’s appreciation for design and craftsmanship grew into a deep affection for vintage furniture, finding beauty in the soft patina, the natural patterns of the wood, and the subtle marks left by time. She believes that every piece has a soul and tells its own unique story.

With Galeries in both Paris and Kamakura, Galerie One presents museum-quality furniture by Jean Prouvé, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, Mathieu Matégot, Isamu Noguchi, Roger Capron, and other design icons, alongside collaborations with esteemed contemporary galleries.
