ピエール・ジャンヌレは1951年、54歳でインドに渡った。英語をほとんど話せなかったと言われながらも、従兄弟のル・コルビュジエとともに、チャンディーガルという都市の設計と建設に携わった。ティエリーが何より敬意を抱くのはこの点にある——ピエールは従兄弟とは違い、脚光を浴びることも派手な演出もなく仕事に取り組み、それでいて、それ自体が語りかけてくるような仕事の数々を残したのだ。本書は、彼が遺した家具を通して、その人生のある特別な一章をたどるものである。

Written by Thierry Lamoine, who has spent decades collecting and studying mid-century design. Since opening Galerie One in Kamakura, he had observed how little had been written in Japan about Pierre Jeanneret, in comparison with his contemporaries Le Corbusier, Jean Prouvé, and Charlotte Perriand. Drawing on years of research and personal experience, he undertook to compile this book, offering Japanese readers a deeper understanding of Jeanneret's furniture, and of the man himself, a figure he has followed closely for many years.

Pierre Jeanneret was 54 when he arrived in India in 1951, reportedly speaking little English, to help design and build the city of Chandigarh alongside his cousin, Le Corbusier. It is this that Thierry respects most: that Pierre, unlike his cousin, worked without acclaim or fanfare, and still left behind a body of work that speaks for itself. This book retraces that particular chapter of his life through the furniture he left behind.

Galerie Oneのセレクションは、1950年代から60年代のフランスのデザインの巨匠や建築家を中心としています。ジャン・プルーヴェ、ピエール・ジャンヌレ、ル・コルビュジエ、シャルロット・ペリアン、マチュー・マテゴなど、ミッドセンチュリーを代表するデザイナーによるオリジナルヴィンテージ作品を取り扱っています。

Galerie Oneには2つの拠点があります。ひとつはパリで、1995年にオープンしました。もうひとつは日本の鎌倉で、2023年にオープンし、1934年築の古民家を活用しています。

創業者のティエリー・ラモワーヌは、20代前半からデザインの収集を続けています。22歳のとき、初めてのジャン・プルーヴェのスタンダードチェアを300フランで購入し、それ以来収集をやめたことはありません。広告・デザイン業界でのキャリアを経て、1980年代に仕事で初めて日本を訪れ、日本のブランドとの関わりを持つようになりました。その後、コレクションを本業とすることを決意し、その長年の縁が自然な形で鎌倉でのGalerie One開設につながりました。

共同創業者のアロー・ナカジマ・ラモワーヌは、キャリアを通じてデザインの仕事に携わってきました。キャリアの礎となる時期をイデーで過ごし、黒崎輝男氏とのかけがえのない師弟関係を築きました

Galerie Oneは完全予約制です。東京中心部から40分の場所に位置し、訪れる方にはゆっくりと時間を過ごしていただいています。展示されている一つひとつの作品について、その歴史的背景や来歴を詳しくご説明します。ギャルリーでの時間の後、鎌倉のお寺やお庭、お気に入りのレストランをご案内することもあります。

また、地元の職人や講師による、日本文化に根ざした少人数制のプライベートイベントも開催しています。トオル・ワタライ氏によるいけばな教室、金継ぎのワークショップ、茶道体験などです。これらのイベントは日本語で行われますので、ご興味のある方は通訳の方とご一緒にお越しください。ご希望の方はDMにてお問い合わせください。

Galerie One's selection centers on French design masters and architects from the 1950s and 60s: original vintage pieces by designers such as Jean Prouvé, Pierre Jeanneret, Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, and Mathieu Matégot, among others.

Galerie One has two locations. The first, in Paris, opened in 1995. The second, in Kamakura, Japan, opened in 2023, housed in a 1934 kominka.

Founder Thierry Lamoine has collected design since his early twenties. He bought his first Jean Prouvé Standard chair for 300 French francs at age 22, and never stopped collecting. After a career in advertising and design that first brought him to Japan in the 1980s and led to his work with Japanese brands, he made collecting his full-time focus, and opened Galerie One in Kamakura as a natural extension of that lifelong connection.

Co-founder Arrow Nakajima-Lamoine has worked in design throughout her career, including her formative years at Idée Japan, and lifelong mentorship with Teruo Kurosaki.

Galerie One is by appointment only. Located forty minutes from central Tokyo, visitors take their time here: a detailed introduction to each piece on view, its historical context, its provenance. Visits sometimes continue beyond the gallery, with a tour of Kamakura's temples, gardens, and favorite local restaurants.

Galerie One also holds small private events tied to Japanese culture with local masters : ikebana classes with Toru Watarai, kintsugi workshops, and Japanese tea ceremony, etc. These cater to Japanese so please bring an interpereter if you are interested. Requests by DM.
